History of Reiki Reiki (prounounced ray-key) is a form of healing that comes from Tibet. Reiki is passed on from master to student. "Rei" is translated to Universal, Ki is the life energy. Reiki is a safe, gentle, non-invasive form of hands-on healing. Recipients report their experience of Reiki includes increased energy, reduction of pain, deep relaxation and a general feeling of well being. Reiki initiation attunes a practitioner to become a channel for the Reiki energy and is a powerful, life-changing experience for physical, mental and spiritual growth. The client is fully clothed and the Practitioner uses specific hand positions on the body or a few inches above the body. The whole person is treated rather than specific symptoms. A full treatment usually takes 1 hour with each position held for several minutes.
